How many children can you have?

Can you have a second child later?

No. The cap is one, and it applies to the whole save file rather than to a time period.

There is no second Mystical Feather and no repeat of the Great Bird dream. Once the child arrives, that thread of the game is finished.

With no divorce in 1.0, you also cannot remarry to start again with someone else.

Which child do you get?

Whichever one belongs to the candidate you married. Each of the 12 has a single possible child with a fixed gender and appearance.

Each of these is the name your spouse suggests, which appears as the default when you are asked to name the baby. You can change the name to anything you like. You cannot change the gender or the appearance.

Do children look like their parent?

Largely, yes. Each child resembles the candidate you married, or somebody from that candidate's family.

There are two versions of every child, a lighter and a darker skin tone, which follow the skin tone you picked for your own character.

A few of the details are deliberate. Caldarus's and Seridia's daughters both have horns, pointed ears and facial markings, from their draconic heritage. Hayden's son inherits his heavy eyebrows. March's daughter has his black hair and his default scowl. Eiland's daughter has the beauty mark under her right eye.

Two of them are a joke at the players' expense. Adeline's daughter has hair closer to Eiland's colour than her own, and Eiland's daughter has hair closer to Adeline's. Their suggested names start with each other's initial, Ellie and Astrid.

Is having a child required?

No. It is entirely optional and your spouse never brings it up.

The official FAQ states plainly that players can choose not to have children after marriage. If you never hold the Mystical Feather, nothing happens.

Does the child do anything?

Not mechanically. Children never grow past the baby stage in 1.0 and do not contribute to farm work.

You can carry the baby around with no penalty to any activity, or leave it in the crib that Landen mails you when it arrives.
