How do you get married?

Who can you actually marry?

There are 12 marriage candidates in 1.0. Only villagers marked as single in their Social tab can be romanced at all.

The bachelorettes are Celine, Juniper, Reina, Valen, Adeline and Seridia. The bachelors are Balor, March, Hayden, Ryis, Eiland and Caldarus.

Everyone else in town can be befriended, but not courted. That includes the two newcomers at the Saturday Market.

What do you need before you can propose?

Three things, in this order.

First, reach 10 hearts with someone you are actively dating. Friendship alone is not enough; you have to be on the romance route, which branches at the 8-heart event.

Second, get the Engagement Ring. Elsie brings the recipe the morning after you hit 10 hearts, but the ring needs a Dragon-Forged Core, and that means reaching Floor 100 of the mines first.

Third, hold the ring. The proposal option only appears when the ring is in your hands as you talk to your partner.

There is no house requirement. The wiki is explicit that the ring material is the only progression gate on marriage, so you do not need a particular farmhouse upgrade.

How does the proposal work?

Holding the ring and interacting with your partner brings up a Discuss prompt that no other item produces. That starts a cutscene where the two of you talk about the future.

Partway through, before the game asks you to commit, your partner gives you a special item that cannot be obtained any other way. Then you choose: propose, or postpone.

Postponing is not a failure state. You keep the item, and you can come back later.

What happens on the wedding day?

You pick the date as soon as the proposal is accepted. The earliest slot is five days out, which gives you time to plan.

In the days before, talk to your fiancé or fiancée to customise the ceremony. You can choose the flower colour, the wedding cake flavour, and the meal served at the reception.

The day itself runs as a semi-interactive cutscene. You wake up and are escorted to the guest room at the Sleeping Dragon Inn to change, where you pick a wedding outfit that you keep permanently afterwards. The ceremony takes the whole day, and the townsfolk handle your watering and your animals while you are busy.

Every other villager has a unique line of congratulations the first time you speak to them after a successful proposal.

What happens to everyone else you were dating?

By default, engagement converts your other dating relationships to Best Friends, and those characters send you a break-up letter.

The 1.0 patch notes added two settings for this. One hides the break-up letters and the follow-up dialogue. The other disables the status change entirely, so nobody is dropped.

The second setting comes with a catch worth repeating: it has to be switched on before you confirm the engagement. Both options appear in the gameplay settings menu via the engagement tutorial cutscene.

What changes after the wedding?

Your spouse moves into the farmhouse and follows a new daily routine. The next day, three pieces of their own furniture arrive in the mail, and each spouse interacts with their own furniture differently once you place it.

You can also kiss a partner you are dating, engaged to, or married to. That interaction was added in 1.0.

Two weeks after the ceremony, going to bed triggers the cutscene that opens the conversation about children. It is entirely optional.

Can you get divorced?

No. As of version 1.0 there is no divorce mechanic, and the developers have not said whether one is planned.

That matters more than it sounds. Each spouse gives you three unique furniture pieces after the wedding, and with no way to remarry, you can only ever collect one set per save file.
