How do you get the Engagement Ring?

What do you need to craft it?

The recipe itself arrives on its own. Reach 10 hearts with a candidate you are actively dating, and Elsie turns up at the farm the next morning to hand it over. Use the recipe scroll to learn it.

Crafting the ring happens at an anvil and takes 40 minutes of in-game time. You need Blacksmithing level 30.

The materials are:

• Diamond ×2
• Mistril Ingot ×4
• Gold Ingot ×4
• Dragon-Forged Core ×1

Three of those four are ordinary bar-and-gem work. The Dragon-Forged Core is the one that decides how long this takes.

How do you unlock the Dragon-Forged Core?

The Core is made at the Dragon Forge, which sits on Floor 90 of the mines. You cannot use its recipes until you finish the story quest The Dragonsworn Tablet.

That quest does not start until you reach Floor 100. Then it asks for something most guides skip: you need 8 hearts with both Juniper and Eiland, and you have to watch both of their 8-heart events, before you talk to Juniper and read the tablet.

This catches people out. A player heading for a wedding with March has no reason to expect that two other villagers are standing in the way.

The Core recipe itself is:

• Monster Core ×5
• Mistril Ingot ×1
• Pink Diamond ×1
• Ancient Firefly ×1
• Medium Essence Stone ×1

Monster Cores drop from lantern enemies on Floors 1–39 and flame spirits on Floors 61–99. Pink Diamonds come from nodes on Floor 81 and deeper, or from a gem cutting date with your partner at the weekend. Ancient Fireflies are caught with a net in the Ancient Ruins, also Floor 81 and deeper.

Can you buy the materials instead of mining them?

Some of them, yes, and it saves a lot of digging if you have the money.

• 40 gold ore from the blacksmith costs 8,000t and smelts into the 4 Gold Ingots
• 50 mistril ore costs 20,000t and gives you 5 Mistril Ingots, one more than the ring needs, which covers the Core
• A Large Bundle of Stone from the carpenter costs 2,000t for 100 stone; the refinery turns 70 of it into 2 Diamonds and 20 more into the Medium Essence Stone

The Monster Cores, Pink Diamond and Ancient Firefly cannot be bought. Those you have to go and find.

Why isn't the recipe showing up at the forge?

Because it is filed under its own category, marked with a star, rather than in the main list you see when the forge menu opens.

This is the single most common complaint about the ring right now. Players reach 10 hearts, take the scroll from Elsie, use it, then open the forge and see nothing. Several people in the community assumed it was a bug before someone pointed at the starred tab.

If you have used the scroll and still cannot see the ring, check that tab before reporting anything.

What happens after you craft it?

Hold the ring and talk to your partner. A unique Discuss prompt appears, which starts the proposal cutscene.

Before the game offers you the choice to propose, your partner hands you a special item you cannot obtain any other way. You can back out at this point and keep the item, which is how players collect all 12.

If you do propose, you pick a wedding date immediately. The earliest available is five days out.

Where did these facts come from?

The recipe, equipment and timings are from the official wiki and match PC Gamer's material list. The delivery timing is stated directly in the official 1.0 patch notes: Elsie brings the recipe the morning after Heart Level 10. The Floor 100 requirement and the Juniper and Eiland prerequisite are from the wiki's Dragonsworn Tablet page.

One thing worth flagging: PC Gamer says Floor 100, the wiki's ring page says Floor 90. Both are right and describe different steps. Floor 100 starts the quest that unlocks the recipes; the Dragon Forge you actually use sits on Floor 90.
