What are your options in the proposal scene?

Two, and only two.

Using the Engagement Ring on a partner at 10 hearts plays a cutscene where the pair of you discuss marriage. It ends with a choice: propose, or postpone the proposal.

Postponing is not a refusal and does not cost you progress. You keep the ring, you keep the hearts, and you can start the same conversation again later.

How long is the engagement?

At least five days, and up to a year, because you choose.

After you propose you set a wedding date. The earliest available date is five days after the day of the proposal, and you can pick any date within the year.

Those days are not dead time. You can consult your fiancé to decide the colour of the flower decorations, the flavour of the wedding cake, and the meal served at the reception.

Can you call off an engagement?

We could not confirm this either way, and we are not going to guess.

The 1.0 patch notes list "Engagement dialogue has been added" without describing what that dialogue contains. If you know the answer from playing, we would rather correct this page than leave it vague.)

What is documented is the consequence if you cannot: there is no divorce in 1.0, so a wedding you go through with is permanent.

When does the free look at everyone else end?

At the proposal, not at the wedding.

The 10 Heart events can be retriggered with the Engagement Ring until you formally propose, which is what lets players see every candidate's scene and collect all twelve proposal items in a single save.

That mechanic is defined against the proposal. Once you have proposed, the sources stop describing a way back.

What should you settle before you propose?

Anything you want to see from the other candidates.

Because postponing is free and unlimited, the cautious order is: reach 10 hearts, craft the ring, trigger the scenes you are curious about, take the items, and only then decide.
